The Standards and Labeling Scheme (S&L) is one of the major thrust areas of BEE. The scheme was launched on May 2006 by Ministry of Power. A key objective of this scheme is to provide the consumer with an informed choice about the energy saving and thereby cost-saving potential of the relevant marketed product. The scheme targets display of energy performance labels on high energy end-use equipment & appliances and lays down minimum energy performance standards.
Energy ‘labeling’ is one of the most cost effective policy tools for improving energy efficiency and lowering energy cost of appliances/equipment for the consumers. The program has been developed in a collaborative and consensus driven approach with active participation from all the stakeholders.
